14-day itinerary

14 days: Paris, Lucerne, Munich, and a Frankfurt night.

Direct answer

Recommended route for a 14-day family trip landing in Paris on Day 1 and flying home from Frankfurt on Day 14: five nights in Paris, four nights in Lucerne, three nights in Munich, and one night in Frankfurt. Three train moves, no departures before 9:00 AM. Interlaken is an easy day trip from Lucerne rather than an extra hotel move.

Recommended action: adapt this route to your specific flight dates.

  • If you have 12 days, Munich is the best stop to save for a future trip.
  • If hiking and high-alpine peaks are your top priority, you can base in Interlaken and adjust for weather.
  • If you want an extra night in Paris, take a night from Lucerne rather than your departure airport buffer.
  • For families with children under 8, our Relaxed route (Paris 6 nights, Lucerne 6 nights) offers fewer hotel moves.

Who this works for

Two adults, one or two children who can handle a 4–5 hour scenic train ride, two hotel rooms, regular dinner times, and relaxed mornings without early wake-up alarms. Flights into Paris and out of Frankfurt.

Why this split

Paris gets five nights because adjusting to the time zone and exploring a major city takes time. Lucerne gets four nights so you have weather flexibility for mountain excursions. Munich gets three nights so you have real time to enjoy Bavaria. Frankfurt gets one night to ensure you arrive at the airport relaxed.

What we skipped on purpose

  • An overnight stop in Strasbourg — beautiful to visit, but adds an extra hotel packing day.
  • Switching hotels to Interlaken — Lucerne offers better rainy-day backups and fewer luggage moves.
  • Zürich as a multi-night stay — great for transit, but Lucerne is more scenic for families on this route.
  • Departures before 9:00 AM.

If you add one night in Paris

Lucerne adjusts from 4 to 3 nights. Your high-speed train moves one day later. Munich and your airport buffer stay unchanged. Paris night 6 is added to your booking checklist. Try this in our replanning preview.

Alternative: Relaxed route

Paris 6 nights, Lucerne 6 nights, and a final airport night (no Munich). Two hotel moves total, later mornings, and more relaxed afternoons. Perfect for younger kids or if you prefer a slower pace.
